Karen Carper has been with McGladrey since June of 2004 and has seen a lot of changes in her time with the firm. She started in her HR career with Arthur Andersen and then went on to join Ernst & Young as a Recruiting Coordinator where she got involved in some campus recruiting. Upon joining McGladrey, she started primarily on the campus side, but has since moved in to a Recruiting Manager role supporting both the campus and experienced recruiting in Southern California.
Karen is native to California, born and raised in Southern California. She grew up in San Diego, attended college at UCLA and lived in Hermosa Beach until about 1 ½ years ago when she moved to Orange County.
Outside of work, one of Karen’s focuses in life is the Team in Training Organization. She is able to help raise money for a worthwhile cause, and is even a mentor to others to help them in their quest to raise money and awareness. Karen has run one marathon through Team in Training, and is in training for her second marathon which will take place at the end of May. Outside of her time spent running and training, Karen enjoys spending time with her husband. They also enjoy taking bike rides on the beach together, going to dinner and talking about their days, and doing wine tastings!
Karen is very much the athlete, playing soccer from the time she was in 3rd grade through high school. She also played Varsity field hockey and ran track. Karen was primarily a sprinter in her youth with her primary event being the 400. She also did the triple jump and some high jumping. When she was in just 4th grade, Karen competed in the Jessie Owens track meet for the state of CA and neighboring states and made it all the way to the finals. She received 4th place in her event!
