Busy Season in Public Accounting typically means long hours and hard work. So when Busy Season ends, it's time to celebrate! The celebrations range in size and scope depending on the office location of course, including:
  • A party at the ESPNZone in Chicago
  • An evening at TopGolf in Dallas
  • A night out at a Minor League baseball game in Richmond (see below).
  • And numerous more dinners and happy hours at restaurants around the country.

After 3+ long months, our people deserve to let their hair-out a bit. Thanks again to all of our employees for their hard work and their devotion to serving and understanding our clients.

Q&A With our San Jose Audit Partner - Angie Boelter

McGladrey is on the path to having a strong footprint in the San Jose, CA market. And why not when we have assurance partners like Angela Boelter leading our efforts there. For those of you not familiar with Angie, she’s a transplant from our Minneapolis, MN office and has been part of our San Jose team since November of 2008. A graduate of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, (Go Huskies!) Angie brings 16 years of public accounting experience to the table. Her expertise includes extensively working with publicly held companies and private equity groups, serving clients in the software development, medical device, manufacturing, distribution and professional services industries.

In addition to overseeing the planning and delivery of audit services to her clients, Angie has served as an instructor in McGladrey & Pullen’s national Learning and Professional Development department, providing training to the Firm’s assurance services personnel on a variety of technical audit and accounting topics.

When she’s not working, you’re likely to find Angie spending some quality time with her husband Bruce while on the beach in Hawaii.

I had a chance to sit down and ask Angie some questions about her thoughts on McGladrey and her plans going forward.

Q. How long have you been working with McGladrey & Pullen?
A.
I joined McGladrey in December of 1996, after spending my first two years in public accounting working for a small CPA firm in the suburban Minneapolis area. I transferred to San Jose to help expand our Bay Area practice in November of 2008.

Q. What initially attracted you to McGladrey vs. other firms?
A.
Having already been with a small firm I was looking for a firm that would offer the chance to work with somewhat larger, more sophisticated clients than I was currently serving. However, I also wanted a firm that wasn’t too large so that I would still have exposure to the executives at my clients, and the partners in my firm. McGladrey offered me the best of both worlds.

Q. What do you enjoy most about working for McGladrey & Pullen?
A.
It’s always been about the people. If you’re going to spend such a significant portion of you day with the people you work with you have to enjoy working with them. I have continually been impressed by the quality people at this firm. Not only are the great business advisors, but they are great people. At McGladrey I found not only co-workers, but I also found friends.

Q. What advice would you give an audit/tax professional who’s considering making a move to McGladrey?
A.
Consider both your short and long term goals. McGladrey is a dynamic, growing firm with many opportunities for personal and professional growth. Knowing what you want to do now, and considering where you want to be in the future, will ensure that when you choose McGladrey you won’t have any doubts it’s the right place for you. In 1996 when I joined the firm I never thought I’d end up living in California, but I knew that I’d have the opportunities to do things I couldn’t have done with my first firm.

Q. Given our San Jose office is in the beginning stages of growth, where do you see us making an immediate impact in the San Jose market?
A.
We bring a new, national alternative to this market which is largely dominated by the Big 4, and then by regional and local firms. We will make an impact in this market by bringing national firm expertise, resources and talent, with the personal service approach usually seen at smaller firms. This will give clients the best of both worlds.

Q. What would you consider to be some of the benefits of working for a start up office?
A.
In a start up office like we are you can immediately see how your actions impact the successes or failures we experience. I’m finding this to be a huge opportunity for personal growth, both in terms of validating what I’m doing well, and allowing me to learn from what hasn’t gone so well.
